Originally a sleeping rug, the Gabbeh is popular among the peoples of the Zagros mountains in western Iran. The name "Gabbeh" comes from the Persian for "natural" or "uncut". This carpet therefore has a thicker, fuller pile compared to some other oriental rugs.
